The Climate Project – Canada Presentation on Climate Change: it's causes, effects and why
everyone must start reducing greenhouse gas emissions – now!
Date of Session: Wed, Nov 12 – 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
Presenter: Nikole Belanger (official presenter for Al Gore through the Climate Project – Canada)
Type of Session: Programming Presentation
In this session, Al Gore's powerful and informative slide show, The Climate Project will be presented with specific
information about the impact of climate change on Canada and suggestions for action plans to combat greenhouse gasses. This is the
basis of presentations that can be tailored for audiences from kindergarten to university level. A teacher’s guideline for follow-up
can be made available.
Based on the thought-provoking slide-show given by Al Gore some 1000 times around the world, and made famous in the film, An Inconvenient Truth,
the presentation covers global warming as the main cause of climate change. It explains how humans are accelerating the warming of the planet
and the resulting impact on the land, fresh water, air and the sea.
The presentation will highlight a number of actions people can take to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and thus their impact on
climate change. Simple ways to start making changes will be suggested using One Million Acts of Green, a new initiative spearheaded
by CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos and The Hour, in partnership with The Climate Project-Canada and other organizations.
The Climate Project consists of 2,500 dedicated volunteers from throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Spain,
and the UK, all personally trained by Al Gore to educate the public about climate change. TCP presenters have reached a combined 4
million people worldwide. Our hope is that by raising the awareness of our fellow citizens about this crisis and informing them
about potential solutions, all of us, together, can preserve the climate balance on which humanity and our planet depends on.
Nikole Belanger is available to bring this program in formats aimed at K-12 and university levels. She can be reached at

Safer Schools by Design-Beyond CCTV or Metal Detectors
Instructor: John Periversoff, VP-Operations, Security Through Safe Design Inc.
Date: Thursday, November 13
Time: 9:30 am – 11 am
Cost: $20 per person (takeaway copy of presentation and supporting articles)
This presentation will examine environmental design principles at a practical level while underpinning comprehensive approaches to
providing safety and security in the school environment.
Safety, security and quality of life are essential requirements for a healthy, vibrant community. So why, in times of decreasing crime are our
schools vulnerable to violent events?
Part of the answer is that the paradigm for school design has not evolved to mitigate the tragic contemporary issues we all too often read about.
Rather than a piece meal approach of more CCTV or "metal detectors", we examine school design from a holistic perspective with design elements and target
hardening equipment working together to mitigate issues.
Mr. John Periversoff is recognized as a leading security specialist with over 26 years in both public and private security at the service delivery,
management, corporate and government level.
He has played a key role in implementing CPTED, Crime Free and many other progressive crime prevention strategies and programs throughout Canada.
John is recognized as an expert Instructor in CPTED and has provided training to numerous public and private institutions.
His diverse career has included nearly 3 decades of work including; specialized hostage rescue officer, anti-terrorism advisor, chief instructor,
a policing advisor to the Deputy Solicitor General of Ontario, and other key appointments up to and including the federal level. He has provided
risk/vulnerability assessment services that included mitigation tactics to decrease the risk and liability exposure for corporate and private industries.
John has attended various conferences and symposiums to speak on the proper design of the environment in reducing criminality, risk and liability.
He is described as a passionate and informed speaker who maintains the audiences keen interest with his dynamic delivery style.
